Steps
Ms. Cole’s Community Service Learning Project
• Begin by choosing or being assigned a form of cancer to study
• Compile a list of 20 questions you would like to answer through your research
• Have research questions approved by Friday, February 8th
• Prepare note cards with questions on one side and research notes on the other
• Have research notes approved by Friday, February 15th
• Begin writing research paper
• Your paper will be 2000-3000 words, typed in Ariel 14, double-spaced.
• Your first draft is due by Friday, February 29th
• Your second draft is due by Friday, March 7th
• Prepare questions for your interview, while working on final draft of paper
• Interview questions are due by Wednesday, March 12th
• Final copy of research paper is due by Friday, April 4th
• Begin working on imovie / digital storytelling - include slides and script
• Twenty slides due by March 20th
• Digital storytelling / imovie script due by March 28th
• Final copy of imovie / digital storytelling due on April 11th
Optional - Relay for Life
• Beginning taking orders for luminaries on Tuesday, April 1st
• Turn in all orders weekly
• Final day for turning in luminary orders, Friday, May 23rd
• Friday, May 30th
• Bring change of clothes, snacks, bottled water (sealed bottles only) and sleeping bag and pillow (if camping) to school on Friday, May 30th. All items should be marked with your name and will be stored in Ms. Cole's classroom. We will be leaving right from the school to go set up at the Relay for Life. Any parent volunteers should meet us in the school library at 2:30.
• The Relay ends at 12 noon on Saturday, May 31st. No student will be allowed to leave the Relay prior to that time unless a parent (with ID) speaks directly with me. No exceptions!
